This Cross of Cong necklace from Clandela is a clean, modern take on the original Cross of Cong. As the relic of the True Cross is missing, it is unknown what stone sits in the centre. The Cross measures 1.3″/3cm in length and 1″/2.5cm in width and hangs off a rolo chain measuring 20″/50.5cm. This Necklace comes in a branded gift box, making this a perfect gift for a loved one. The Story of the Cross of Cong
The Cross of Cong is a lavishly decorated processional cross made in Roscommon in order to enshrine a relic of the original Cross that Jesus Christ was crucified on, that arrived in Ireland in 1123. The rock crystals in the centre of the cross magnified the relic of the True Cross placed directly behind it. The cross was quite unique in Ireland at the time, and its shape is still very distinct. The Cross of Cong was made for the Cathedral church of Tuam, County Galway, but was later moved to Cong Abbey in County Mayo. Today the cross be admired at the National Gallery of Ireland in Dublin.
