History of crystal in south east Ireland.
Inspired by century’s old tradition Heritage Irish Crystal is authentically mouth-blown and hand-cut. The factory is located in Waterford City, Ireland. The Waterford region is steeped in crystal history of this fine art dating back to 1783. The English Penrose brothers get credit for introducing glass production to the area. Although they had no glass making skills themselves, they brought it with them in the form of employees. John Hill, a crystal making genius accompanied the brothers, along with a team of 70 men. As a consequence of their arrival, crystal production in the area went from strength to strength over the following decade. However, this golden age would soon end. Following this the industry was to go through highs and lows over the subsequent decades. Despite this, the city is still synonymous with crystal.
Heritage Irish Crystal
Joe Williams founded Heritage Irish Crystal in 1990 after learning the craft in Waterford Crystal. Heritage Irish Crystal is dedicated to preserving the finest qualities of hand-made glass making techniques. Their crystal contains over 30% lead, allowing a 90 degree cut. This method of cutting consequently allows the pieces to catch the light beautifully. Each piece is polished to their unique fine finish, in addition to the cutting. This contributes to the preservation of their exceptional quality. Indeed the weight of each piece emits pure luxury with the deep cuts and diamond like sparkle.
It’s because of these qualities that Heritage Irish Crystal is truly a brand of excellence in the art of hand-made crystal.
